| Training Opportunities |
Trainings are available at all levels, and are conducted throughout the United States and in Canada and Europe:
- One- and two-day introductory workshops on the basic principles and methods of IFS, as well as workshops for the professional public.
- The Level 1 (Basic) Training Program is a one-year, intensive training in which students thoroughly learn IFS theory and technique while they explore their own inner worlds in a safe, nurturing context. The staff for most of these programs includes Richard Schwartz and a Senior Trainer and several Assistant Trainers, so participants receive close supervision and mentoring. Typically, training groups become supportive communities for intellectual, spiritual, and emotional growth and learning.
- Postgraduate opportunities include the two-year Level 2 (Advanced) Training Program, advanced integrative programs, such as The Energy of the Self, consultation groups, and other advanced workshops and retreats.
- Annual Conference held every fall in the Chicagoland area.
- Annual Retreat held every February in Mexico.
More information on trainings and calendars can be found on the website. |
| The Annual Conference |
2006 will mark the 15th year of the Internal Family Systems Annual Conference. Offered every fall in the midwest, it features a diverse range of workshops and plenaries for both the beginning and advanced practitioner and professional public; plenaries by Richard Schwartz; extracurricular relaxation/refreshment workshops; entertainment; dance party; and the opportunity to be in the warm embrace of the IFS community – all at a beautiful lakeside retreat setting. The Conference runs from Thursday through Sunday, with an all-day pre-Conference institute on Thursday. Lodging and meals are very affordable, as are Conference fees, and discounts are available for full-time students.
A brochure is mailed to the general IFS database each summer and is available in a printer-friendly format on the website. For more information about the next Annual Conference, click here. |
| The Annual Retreat |
The Annual Retreat, The Wisdom of the Body, is an intensive week-long experience that allows practitioners and interested others to explore the latest techniques of IFS. For the past several years, the Annual Retreat has been held every February in Maya Tulum, Mexico at an oceanside retreat site; however, new locations are being explored this year.

| The Journal of Self Leadership |
The Journal of Self Leadership was created to advance the Model by promoting and encouraging scholarly and scientific writing on IFS and the principles of Self leadership. Articles are accepted which detail the Model’s utility and effectiveness for a variety of presenting problems, populations, and applications in both clinical and non-clinical arenas. Co-Editors Ralph Cohen, Ph.D., Director of the MFT Masters Program at Central Connecticut State University, and Greg Johanson, Ph.D., may be contacted at (860) 832-2109 or jsljournal@aol.com. Circulation and distribution is being handled by the Internal Family Systems Association at (906) 864-1288 or IFSA@czo.net.

| Readings/Resources |
A selected bibliography is maintained on the website and includes the latest books, book chapters, and journal articles, as well as other learning resources, such as recordings (audio/video) of client sessions in which the Model is demonstrated in the clinic, as well as workshops/lectures from past Conferences. The Center is in the process of expanding its library and will be able offer additional resources soon.
The Center has procured the publishing rights to the book, The Mosaic Mind: Empowering the Tormented Selves of Child Abuse Survivors, written by Dr. Schwartz and Regina Goulding, following her untimely death in 2001. The book is being reprinted in soft cover and is now available in soft cover from the Center’s publishing division, Trailheads PublicationsTM.
Dr. Schwartz’ latest book, Introduction to the Internal Family Systems Model, continues to be an extremely popular seller. First published at the national conference in 2001 in a spiral-bound, informal version, plans are being made to have the booklet professionally illustrated and bound.
