IFS Level 1 Admissions: LIVE COMMUNITY Q&A

**Update 4/3/2024 - A recording of the March 28th event can be found here.

We have heard how the new admissions changes have landed on some of your systems. First, we want to make sure you all know that there is a place for you at IFS-I. You are still needed and you are still wanted.

We are also developing additional pathways for previously trained Practitioners to contribute their expertise and skill including our new IFS Foundations for Coaches which will launching with a pilot cohort this Spring. We are working hard to create unique offerings for different professionals to learn IFS in ways that are most fitting to their profession and scope of practice.

While there is a need to differentiate the application of IFS between clinical and non-clinical use, we remain committed to providing educational opportunities for people of all professions to incorporate IFS into their professional and personal lives.

To provide more transparency around this change, IFS-I will be hosting two Admission Criteria Changes Q & A sessions with Dick Schwartz and IFS CEO Katie Nelson. Our intent with these events is to provide clarity, and answer questions compiled from the feedback we've received on the changes.

We invite you to join us on the following dates:

March 12th 4 pm - 5 pm ET - Register Now

March 28th 10 am-11 am ET - Register Now

We hope you are able to attend. If you are planning on joining us and would like to submit your questions ahead of time, please submit them here

We also want to provide some additional FAQs below. We invite you to read through the Frequently Asked Questions for additional support and guidance.

Most importantly, we want you to know that we appreciate you all and you are a valuable part of the IFS family.

Warm regards,

IFS Institute

PA Specific FAQ

I have earned a Certificate of Completion for a Level 1 training and I am not a mental health professional. Am I eligible to apply for a Program Assistant role?

  • Yes. Those who obtain a Level 1 Certificate of Completion may continue to apply for a PA role.

I’m working toward my IFS Practitioner Certification. May I continue to use PA experience to fulfill my pre-requisite?

Will Practitioners still be considered by trainers for PA roles?

  • Trainers may still choose Practitioners who have received a Level 1 Certificate of Completion to be on their PA training staff. Trainers choose their PA staff holistically while considering the overall training group.

As a PA, will I be treated as “less than” based on my credentials as a Practitioner and not a mental health professional?

  • IFS Institute respects and appreciates PAs of all backgrounds and experience. The pathway was intentionally kept open for Practitioners interested in being a PA who receive a Level 1 Certificate of Completion because we deeply value their dedication and contribution to the IFS community.

I have parts that are concerned about being a PA in a training where I would no longer be eligible to apply as a participant. Why would I continue on the PA path?

  • As IFS Institute develops alternative programs for those in different scopes of practice, pathways are being created to help honor your Program Assistant experience. You may continue your PA development as a Practitioner and use this experience for future programs.

IFS Institute is launching a pilot program for an inaugural cohort of IFS Foundations for Coaches in Spring 2024. Visit here for more information

As a Practitioner, can I still be a participant and/or on PA staff for a Program Assistant Development Workshop?

  • If you have earned a Certificate of Completion from a Level 1 training, you may still register as a participant and/or be on PA staff for a Program Assistant Development Workshop.
